Each day our preschool students work with the Fundations program. In both the whole group setting and in small groups children learn to recognize and name the letters of the alphabet and produce the sound each letter makes. The program focuses on the following skills for preschoolers:

• Recognition of the alphabetical order of letters a-z

• Letter name, keyword, and sound for the 26 letters of the alphabet (letter-sound correspondence)

• Visual connection between the letter name, its sound, and its written representation

• Letter formation for lowercase letters

• Letter formation for uppercase letters

• Association of a sound with a letter that is written
